Citizen street paving

Marana citizens raised money through donations with the help of Jack Horton from NAPA Auto who gave batteries to recycle for money. The town borrowed Cortaro Water’s dump truck and borrowed the City of South Tucson’s hot oil spreading wagon. The paving was on Grier Road, from Sandario to Sanders. The town bought the oil and got a load of pea gravel and the citizen volunteers spread the oil with South Tucson’s machine. Mayor Ed Honea says men shoveled the pea gravel by hand and men and women with brooms spread the pea gravel on top of the hot oil. Women from the community made sandwiches and tea and gave them to the hungry volunteers. About two hundred people from the community were involved.
